The year is 1890 and in a small family owned blacksmith shop, in the town of Savoie France, Joseph Opinel turned 18. By the glow of the forge he showed his father a simple pocket knife he dreamed up for mass production. Despite his father’s dislike of machine crafted tools Joseph was convinced he could make a high quality knife everyone could afford. Thus the Opinel knife was born and soon grew into a national icon. The Opinel No. 6 Olive Wood Knife continues the tradition of well made knives. Olive wood is often finely veined with darker tints; being very hard and close-grained, it makes an outstanding knife handle. The unique feel of the Olive wood combined with its exceptional appearance and affordability makes it "one of our all time favorites." This knife is small enough to be used as a pocket knife and its 3 1/4" stainless steel blade prevent it from being considered a weapon in most states (please check with your state before considering this knife). Weighing only 1.2 oz. its light in the pocket and in the hand. No matter the size of the task Opinel knives are ready to stand at your side backed with over 100 years of adventuring experience.
